THE POLO NECK UPDATE

Whether you call it a roll, turtle, polo or skivvy (skivvy? I’d never heard of it either.  It’s an Australian thing apparently), this is one knit that you should definitely be investing in this season. I spend most of the long British winter trying to stay as warm and comfortable as possible which generally results in all thoughts of style and fashion flying straight out the window.  However this season, throwing on a huge knit, in particular a polo neck, is totally legit.

A bit of street stalking gives us plenty of tips on how to wear this key piece.  Go big on top and tight on the bottom if you are leaving the house and want to avoid looking like Jabba the hutt and even layer up a tighter fit of polo neck under a shirt for a more glam look that will still keep you toasty warm.  Oh and top tip to look like a true fashion darrrllling- make sure your hair is tucked in to the roll neck.  Although a word of warning: this will result in being itchy and hot.  As is always the case, no pain no gain.

PEACOCKS

The street style from Mecerdes Benz Fashion Week Australia is probably my favourite.  The colour, texture and vibrancy that you see reminds me of a swarm of exotic birds in a rainforest.  Bold, bright and beautiful, these girls know how to dazzle their audience.

DENIM JACKET – TEN WAYS

The sun is set to shine this weekend in London and with the forecast promising a very Spring like 17 degrees C, my beloved denim jacket is set to get it’s first outing of the year *fist pump the air with joy*.  The trusty denim jacket is the king of all staples and whether you should don one or not is never the question- the question is how

IN THE PINK

Quite awkward if you didn’t get the memo about the pink coat rule at NYFW.  Luckily (sigh of relief), it seems that most attendees did as they have popped up EVERYWHERE.  The shape, length, cut, style, fabric… not important.  It is simply a colour thing and the more candy floss the better- think fluffy, boxy and sugary.  Yum.

HAND-ME-DOWN CHIC

I spent most of my early adolescence trying to avoid the exact same jeans that I am about to rush out and buy – oh the irony.  There has been a subtle shift in the jeans trend and we are seeing plenty of examples during NYFW.  I call them hand-me-down jeans.  Why? Well because they look identical to the pair I inherited from a (male) cousin and forced to wear as a lanky 12 yr old.  Mine were way too short, patched at the knees with Scout achievement badges sewn on the pockets and somewhat unflattering.  If only I still had them today… *wistful sigh*
