Whether you call it a roll, turtle, polo or skivvy (skivvy? I’d never heard of it either. It’s an Australian thing apparently), this is one knit that you should definitely be investing in this season. I spend most of the long British winter trying to stay as warm and comfortable as possible which generally results in all thoughts of style and fashion flying straight out the window. However this season, throwing on a huge knit, in particular a polo neck, is totally legit.
A bit of street stalking gives us plenty of tips on how to wear this key piece. Go big on top and tight on the bottom if you are leaving the house and want to avoid looking like Jabba the hutt and even layer up a tighter fit of polo neck under a shirt for a more glam look that will still keep you toasty warm. Oh and top tip to look like a true fashion darrrllling- make sure your hair is tucked in to the roll neck. Although a word of warning: this will result in being itchy and hot. As is always the case, no pain no gain.

I’m having a deja-vu moment. I am about 14, sitting in the changing room at the beginning of a new school term and everybody, I mean ev-ver-ry-body has come back with the same trainers. Everybody that is, except me. Today, I’m not at school and definitely not in a changing room but I still feel left out of the trainer club. This time round I am talking about the Adidas Stan Smiths. These bad boys aren’t a new trend but it now seems like EVERY member of the fashpack is wearing them. Whether you pair them with skirts, masculine tailoring or just your good ol’ jeans, the Stans are a sure fire way to update your wardrobe with a little bit of cool girl attitude.
They have been a longstanding favourite of the rich and famous but a good pair of sunglasses can now be viewed as a vital accessory to any outfit. No longer is their role simply to keep the sun out of ones eyes or the hangover at bay. Oh no, these days you need to have options, mix and match accordingly and change it up on a regular basis. Essentially the rule is to place the same emphasis on your shades as you do your shoes – you simply wouldn’t leave the house without a pair.
The trusty blazer is once again proving itself to be a trans seasonal wardrobe must have. This is a jacket that can be styled with just about anything and worn day or night, fitted or oversized, plain or patterned, solo or layered, come rain or shine, hell or high water etc. You catch my drift- don’t leave home without one.
Unless you have been living on the moon of late, you would have noticed that crop tops are BIG news for this SS. If however, like me, you baulk at the idea of having to get your winter tummy (for winter read too much pasta, not enough sun) out in public, there is an alternative way to wear this trend. You still get involved in the crop top craze but you wear yours over your normal, long length top… yup that’s right, just in the same way Superman wears his pants over his tights. Genius, no?
